Proofreading
Proofreading services are offered in accordance with these standard terms and conditions unless otherwise stated in proposals / contracts. Where no such proposals or contracts exist, these terms will be the governing terms of all work.

Proofreading is deemed to include the following:

  1. Looking for errors in spelling, capitalisation, punctuation, repeated words, spacing, grammar and typographical errors and is a separate process that takes place after documents have been edited.
  2. Looking for inconsitencies within the document.
  3. Checking that referencing of tables etc. is correct within the document and that any graphics are the correct orientation and captions are consistent.
  4. Checking style and register.
  5. Checking consistency of format such as headings and sub headings, numbering etc.
  6. Proofreading is not editing, copy-editing or proof-editing. It is the final process before a document is published. Editing is the changing of text to ensure that the text conveys the meaning, tone and ideas of the writer in an appropriate and effective way. Proofreading is the checking of the edited document for any remaining errors as described above.
  7. All proofread documents will be changed with changes highlighted either in “track changes” for word documents or marked up in PDF’s and notes on the changes will be recorded.
  8. Any style sheets, or house styles must be provided to Sankofa if they exist, however, in the absence of such style sheets we will provide a record of styles and how they have been used in the document with any comments on inconsistencies.
  9. Proofreading requires documents to be read a number of times and for them to be checked for errors. Typically proofreading will require a number of days to ensure that errors are identified and changed. The length of time required will depend on the complexity and number of words to be proofread.

Courses, Flash courses & Refunds (Working Across Culture, DEI inclusive Language etc)

  1. All participants will undergo a level test to ensure that the training is suitable for their needs.
  2. Cancellation of sessions will be charged as normal unless the cancellation is not less than 24 hours before the start of the planned session. Sessions that are cancelled can be rescheduled once if they are no less that 24 hours. Otherwise, the participant will receive the material for that session and it will be their responsibility to study so taht they can meet any course requirements concerning attendance and grades.
  3. Any participant that does not attend 80% of the course will not receive a certificate of participation.
  4. Any participant that does not achieve 80% or higher in any assessment that is taken at the end of the course will not receive a certificate of completion.
  5. Payment for all courses will be made in full prior to the course commencing.
  6. A refund for the cost of the course, less a 75€ administration fee can be requested by the participant if the participant is not entirely happy with the course. The refund will be returned via the same route as the payment. For each of the modules taken, there will be an additional fee of 90€ withheld from the payment. For example, if the participant cancels the course after two modules (weeks/sessions etc) the total amount retuned to the participant would be the cost of the course paid, less 75€ administration fee, and 90€ x 2 for the tow modules already taken. No certificate will be provided for the course in this instance.
  7. Refunds are not possible after 30 days from the date of payment.
